At Finchley Tamil Koodam, our programme helps children build confidence in spoken Tamil, connect with their cultural heritage, and learn through creative, engaging activities.

Our curriculum is contemporary and designed especially for children growing up in the UK. Children learn Tamil through practical communication, creative expression and cultural connection.

We welcome children aged 3 and above.

Learning pathway

British Tamil Education Board grading framework

We follow the British Tamil Education Board (BTEB) grading framework.

Age and ability

Children are placed in levels appropriate to their age, ability and confidence.

Own pace

Students progress through the BTEB pathway at a pace that suits them.

Spoken Tamil

Our emphasis is always on spoken Tamil and practical communication skills.

Creative expression

Creative activities help children use Tamil with confidence and enjoyment.

We welcome children aged 3 and above.

Class timings

Every Saturday, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Term-time only.

BTEB certification

Students may choose to sit for the BTEB Tamil Language Certification exams.

Exam timing

Exams are usually held in May/June. Participation is entirely optional.

Supportive guidance

Children learn at a pace that suits them, with supportive guidance for those who opt in.

Cultural and creative experiences

Tamil culture as something joyful, expressive and relevant.

Alongside language learning, all children take part in cultural workshops, music, drama, storytelling, festival celebrations and creative arts projects.

These activities help children experience Tamil culture as something joyful, expressive and relevant to their lives in the UK.
